megaloBlastic anemia and Folate
This article compared the vitamin B12, folic acid, and homocysteine levels in relation to to megaloblastic anemia in individuals. This study took 50 patients suffering from megaloblastic anemia and assessed their vitamin B12, folic acid, and homocysteine levels with 50 non-megaloblastic anemia individuals. From this study, 40 out of 50 individuals suffering from megaloblastic anemia had low vitamin B12 levels and 44 out 50 subjects had low folic acid levels. In comparison, only 2 out 50 non-megaloblastic individuals had low vitamin B12 levels and only 12 out of 50 subjects had low folic acid levels. This suggests that low vitamin B12 and folic acid levels are correlated to megaloblastic anemia.
